Stars across the borderless sky.
I used to hate going to this place of my dad's former elementary school friend's house. The reasons being - it's far, lots of mosquitoes, in a deserted area, dark, many dogs, nothing to do there, nothing nice to see, there are only uncles and aunties of my dad's age (*cough* go figure!)...
Well, I couldn't remember since when that it sort of became a "ritual" to go to that house at least once every year. Even though I was rather reluctant to follow my parents to go to that place for dad's elementary school mates' gatherings, I would still enjoy the time spent there a teeny bit.
It was until the past two weeks, when it was the most recent visit for CNY gathering. The funny thing was many of them said they would come, yet the number of people turn up was way below expectation. Haha. Even so, surprisingly I had the greatest time in years attending the old folks' gathering!
The house's spacious area was being renovated and decorated, and I had to say the design and idea was rather nice - even though there's nothing extravagant. It was the second time I went there after the uncle got his place renovated - ideas being given by his own children. I would say, very impressive, really.
After all the uncle's relatives went home, there were just the few of us at the garden. As usual, I am not much of a speaker but rather a listener and on-looker looking around for interesting things. And that night, was truly a serene night.
The crescent moon was seen so clearly hanging on the vast, dark sky. Never in my life had witnessed the moon shifted it's place, until that night. The moon was on top on my head, and a few hours later, it was behind uncle's house already! I was sad that I didn't bring along my tripod, or else I'll be ready to take some shots! Oh well.
My mom got caught up chatting with one of uncle's son about the garden, the fish business that they run (which was really successful - they got on magazines and have foreigners visit for exchange of ideas), and lastly the vast number of puppies they had! I swear I was in the verdict of kidnapping one. *sobs* They were so cute and active! Then again... with my house's space, they wouldn't be running and chasing this freely and happily anyway. *sigh*
At one point, that night, the old folks decided to have some star gazing moments as uncle ordered his children to off the lights so that all of us could have a clear glimpse of the sky. That was when I felt that life is truly worth living, for the very first time in my life.
I remembered when I was young, I love to stare at the dark sky because it'll be filled with stars. The view was astonishingly breath taking, and calming. As I grew up, I had forgotten that kind of emotions. I even forgot to look up and spend some quiet moment gaze at the glittering stars.
It wasn't until last year, I would often look up searching for stars when I take the garbage out. Sadly to say, I could count the number of stars in the sky. Very rarely I would lost count, and got lost in mesmerizing the beauty of the night sky. Moreover, I didn't have the time to stare too long.
That night was when I had all the time I could have to stare at the stars on the borderless sky all I want. It was true, when they say the city lights are so bright that we couldn't see the stars at night. I had difficult time staring and searching for stars at my home due to street lights and lights from houses. Staying out of town had the advantage of a clear view of the sky - because there were minimal amount of lights.
Well, I guess now I have a good reason to look forward to gatherings at uncle's place now.
